Holland America Cruises

Holland America Cruise line has mixed reviews. In terms of the atmosphere of the suites and cabins in the ship, they’re standard size and nothing out of the ordinary. The ship provides common facilities as any other cruise such as shuffleboard, a basketball court, a tennis court, and a casino. Even with all these drawbacks Holland America Cruises excel in service. The cruise line is renowned for its attentive service and is blessed with the highest staff-to-guest ratio as compared to other cruise lines.

Complimentary 24-hour room service is provided to the guests. An inside cabin costs somewhere in the range of $699-750 per head, which is not too much considering the facilities offered. The main deck cabin is standard in size, with basic furnishings and an ordinary bathroom. Also the cabins do not have a mini-bar.

Even though the facilities may not be at par with their competitors, they have good value, in terms of the cost of their cruise fares. The ship has a regular movie theater with exceptional seats. Located across the theater is a Café where you can get free espresso, or cappuccino.

The casino has an intimate environment which includes all the basic card tables and slot machines. There are quite a few shops on-board the ships, great for last minute gift shopping and are reasonably priced.

The dining room in the ship is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu that serves a wide array of choices and tastes, in comparison with their competitors. However, as with any other cruise line the dining rooms have fixed hours which makes it difficult for passengers who want more flexibility. Compared to the breakfast and lunch menus the dinner menu is by far the best.

In general, Holland America caters to smaller groups with more of an emphasis on service and cuisine. Families with small children would be better suited for another cruise lien such as Disney cruises or Carnival.
